You can easily install NTP (Network Time Protocol, a means of transmitting time signals over a computer network) using yum command under Redhat or CentOS/Fedora core Linux.

Installation

yum -y install ntp

Turn on service

systemctl enable ntpd

Synchronize

the system clock with ntp.bri.connect.com.au server:

ntpdate ntp.bri.connect.com.au

Edit the following file to configure the NTP server(s) of choice.

vi /etc/ntp.conf
# --- OUR TIMESERVERS -----
# Use public servers from the pool.ntp.org project.
# Please consider joining the pool (http://www.pool.ntp.org/join.html).
server 0.centos.pool.ntp.org
server 1.centos.pool.ntp.org
server 2.centos.pool.ntp.org

For the people of Australia it may be a good idea to add the following to the pool.

server 0.oceania.pool.ntp.org
server 1.oceania.pool.ntp.org
server 2.oceania.pool.ntp.org
server 3.oceania.pool.ntp.org

In the past I have been using:

ntp.bri.connect.com.au

I now combine all of them to be in the ntp.conf configuration file.

Starting

Start the NTP:

systemctl start ntpd
